Debbie Briem, MA, LMFT holds a Master’s degree from Antioch University in Clinical Psychology and is licensed by the state of California as a Marriage and Family Therapist. (mfc# 48586). Her specialization is addiction, and as such received training through the addiction studies and counseling program at UCLA Extension.
She offers treatment to a wide array of individuals, couples, families, and adolescents. With over 20 years of experience, her years of informed skills have led her to understand and appreciate the emotional complexities underlying compulsive behaviors and the subsequent challenges life can present.
Her early work began for a non-profit in Santa Monica, California. Her responsibilities ranged from managing staff, and programming, to working directly with homeless women and children, women impacted by domestic violence, educating teens about the perils of addiction, individuals within the criminal justice system completing alternative sentencing, spectrum youth, group therapy facilitation, coordinating resources; and overall, being a community advocate for wellness.
Her theoretical style is tailored to the meet the diverse needs of each individual, couple, and family she serves and practices from a range modalities including, but not limited to: mindfulness, narrative, family systems, cognitive-behavioral, and stage of change approaches. Outside of her professional interests, she celebrates sobriety, enjoys the beach, reads, and writes.
