Dr. Helen O'Mahony , Assistant Clinical Director

Assistant Clinical Director Dr. Helen O’Mahony has over ten years experience working with severely mentally ill populations, with a particular expertise counseling schizophrenic clients. She has treated all Axis I diagnoses, including post-traumatic stress disorder, major depression, bipolar disorder, and severe anxiety disorders, as well as Axis II disorders.

Prior to coming to Milestones, Dr. O’Mahony was Program Director of a dual diagnosis treatment program at the West Los Angeles Veterans Administration, using relevant research to write her doctoral dissertation (“Variables Leading to Success or Failure in a Substance Abuse Treatment Program for Veterans”).

Dr. O’Mahony’s treatment orientation is modern psychoanalysis, combined with cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy. She finds this blended approach effective in helping clients reach the root of their problems, and release negative patterns of thought and behavior.

An avid yoga practitioner and sports fan (she is slightly obsessed with the Boston Red Sox), Dr. O’Mahony incorporates physical activities into her therapeutic modalities.
